Exploring Choquequirao and Machu Picchu on an 8-day trip is immersing yourself in the very essence of history and adventure in the Peruvian Andes. Starting in Choquequirao, the “sacred sister” of Machu Picchu, you embark on a challenging but rewarding hike, discovering Inca ruins hidden among lush jungle and snow-capped peaks. Then, you continue to Machu Picchu, the archaeological jewel of Peru, where the amazing Inca citadel nestled on top of a mountain awaits you. This 8-day experience gives you a unique perspective of the cultural and natural richness of the Andes, leaving lasting memories every step of the way.

4:00 – 04:30 am we will pass by our clients’ respective hotels to begin this great adventure. We will drive along the main road Cusco – Abancay, on the way we will take a detour towards the town of Cachora where we will arrive in approximately 4 hours. It is here where we will have our breakfast and then continue on our transportation for about 30 more minutes to Capuliyoc. It is in this place that we will begin our walk of approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes to Chiquisca. It is here where we can have lunch and have some free time before continuing our descent to Rosalina beach, which is located at 1500 meters above sea level and where the Apurímac River is, which is the division between 2 departments: Apurímac and Cusco. We will cross the Rosalina bridge then we enter the department of Cusco again, from here we begin an ascent to our camp in Santa Rosa (1915 meters above sea level).
Walking time: Approximately 5 hours.

After a comforting breakfast, we will continue the ascent, this day we ascend to the community of Marampata (2870 meters above sea level). We will continue for 2 more hours until we reach Choquequirao and make a full-day visit. We will enjoy a picnic lunch and continue our exploration.
Our camp tonight will be in Choquequirao approximately 25 minutes from the archaeological complex at an altitude of (2950 meters above sea level). We will have the chance to see some condors flying over the mountains.

Walking time: Approximately 5 hours.

After a comforting breakfast, we will begin to do some exploration and then continue the walk towards the Choquequirao pass (3270 meters above sea level) and we will pass through the archaeological site of Pinchaunuyoc (2450 meters above sea level). To end this day of hiking, we will descend to the deepest point of the small canyon known as Río Blanco (1900 meters above sea level), it is in this place where we will camp
Here we will have a warm climate therefore there is also the presence of mosquitoes.
Walking time: Approximately 6 hours.

With different changes in altitude, this day is considered the hardest but also the most amazing. We begin our walk from Río Blanco and ascend towards Maizal (3000 meters above sea level), here we will take a short break and enjoy the wonderful landscape that surrounds us. We continue the ascent to Paso San Juan (4170 meters above sea level), we delight in the fascinating view of the mountains, glaciers and valleys, and we will continue walking to our camp in the small town of Yanama (3530 meters above sea level).

Walking time: Approximately 5 hours.

We had breakfast very early and then we will begin the walk slowly climbing towards the highest pass on our entire tour, the Yanama Pass (4,670 ms). We will have a surprising view surrounded by the Nevados de Sacsarayoj, Salkantay, Pintuyu, among others. After a brief stop in the mountain we will begin our descent towards the Totora Valley where we will camp at 3,200 meters above sea level. approximately.

Walking time: approximately 8 hours.

This beautiful day, we will have the opportunity to meet the local people who are around the camp and who make a living from agriculture and livestock. After breakfast, we begin our walk surrounded by diverse vegetation such as bromeliads, orchids, and we will also be able to see coffee, papaya and avocado plantations; We will walk until we reach La Playa (2100masl) or even, if time is enough, we could continue to Lucmabamba (2020masl).

Walking time: approximately 7 hours.

After breakfast, we begin our walk along the Inca Trail until we reach Llactapata (2650 meters above sea level), an archaeological complex that offers a spectacular view of Machu Picchu surrounded by particular vegetation. After a break to relax, we will go down to the train station in Hidroeléctrica (1950 meters above sea level), where we will take the train that will take us to Aguas Calientes (2050 meters above sea level). We arrive in Aguas Calientes, we will go to the hotel where we will spend our last night.

Walking time: approximately 6 hours.

Early in the morning, we will leave the hotel to take the bus that will take us to the citadel of MachuPicchu, it is a journey of approximately 30 minutes. We will have a guided tour of the archaeological site and then have a little time to explore on our own. After the visit, we will take our bus back to Aguas Calientes, to wait for the time of our train back to Ollantaytambo. Once in Ollantaytambo, our transportation will be waiting for us to return to Cusco and take us to our hotel.
