Pachacamac and Barranco represent two fascinating facets of Lima: ancestral heritage and bohemian spirit.
Pachacamac, located south of the city, was one of the main ceremonial centers of pre-Hispanic Peru. Its Quechua name means “He who gives life to the universe,” and it was a sanctuary of great importance for the Lima, Wari, and Inca cultures. Its adobe temples, such as the imposing Temple of the Sun, offer a glimpse into the mysticism of ancient civilizations. Barranco, in contrast, is the most bohemian and artistic neighborhood in Lima.
Its colorful streets, the emblematic Bridge of Sighs, and its impressive views of the Pacific Ocean make it an unmissable destination for those seeking history, art, and culture in one place.
A tour full of history and charm that you cannot miss!
Schedules:
We will begin our tour with pick-up from your hotels in Miraflores or San Isidro in Lima. During the journey, we will pass through the Costa Verde and make a brief stop at El Salto del Fraile, a viewpoint with spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean, enveloped in mystical legends. We will continue towards the Reserved Zone of the Villa Swamps, Lima’s last natural refuge, where we will observe reed beds, meadows, and water mirrors that serve as habitat for more than 150 species of migratory birds from places as far away as the Arctic Pole, the Caribbean, and Patagonia.
Then, we will head to the Archaeological Sanctuary of Pachacamac, one of the most important ceremonial centers in pre-Hispanic Peru. Its Quechua name means “He who gives life to the universe,” and its imposing adobe construction housed temples and palaces dedicated to the worship of the god Pachacamac. During our visit, we will explore the Temple of the Sun, the House of the Chosen or Virgins of the Sun, and other buildings that reveal the grandeur of this archaeological site. We will also visit the site museum, where archaeological pieces found in excavations are exhibited.
To close our tour, we will visit the traditional bohemian district of Barranco, famous for its colonial architecture and vibrant cultural life. Here, we will cross the emblematic Bridge of Sighs and enjoy a beautiful view of the Pacific Ocean before returning to Lima. A tour that combines history, culture, and nature in an unforgettable experience.
