The Ausangate Mountain, also known as ‘Apu Ausangate,’ was one of the most important deities during the Inca era and remains so to this day, due to the respect and sacredness that the Andean people hold for it. This mountain is located at 6,372 meters above sea level in the Andes Mountain Range and is one of the most beautiful hikes, thanks to the breathtaking landscapes that can be seen along the way, such as snow-capped peaks, hot springs, colorful lagoons, glaciers, herds of llamas and alpacas, picturesque Andean villages, and people dressed in traditional clothing. Additionally, we have the opportunity to visit the Rainbow Mountain along the route.
This hike is challenging due to the altitude and the characteristic cold of this area, but it is rewarding for the effort made to have this unique experience in the southern Andes of Peru. If you are an adventurer and enjoy high-altitude trekking, this tour is for you.
Early in the morning, we pick u up from your hotels and head South of Cusco, specifically to the community of Tinki (3,800 masl). Along the way, we will pass trhough the small communities, and after a short break, we will pack along belongins into waterproof bags and then begin our hike towards the community of Upis (4400msnm).
The goal for the day is to enjoy a delicious lunch in a stunning landscape. After lunch we will stay at this campsite to spend the night and enjoy the local hot springs.
After breakfast, we will begin our hike, where we will see some beautiful lakes in various colors. We will then ascend to the Pucacocha Pass (4,900 m.a.s.l) and continue to Anantapata (4,500 m.a.sl), where we will set up camp.
After breakfast, we start another day of adventure. We will hike to Lake Kayrawiri, which is surrounded by rugged mountains and stunning scenery. We will be able to see colorful spots on the mountains. We will then continue our hike and visit one of the most famous places in recent years, the Rainbow Mountain of Vinicunca. We will enjoy this landscape before returning to Anantapata and continuing our hike to Cocha Ausangate (4,650 m.a.s.l), where we will set up camp.
We will start our hike to the highest point of this trek at 5,100 meters above sea level, from where we will have a spectacular panoramic view of the Ausangate Snow-capped Peak, the highest in Cusco (6,384masl).
We will then begin our descent to Finaya Pampa, where we can see a wide variety of South American camelids such as alpacas, llamas, wild vicuñas, and, with some luck, we may also spot condors. After a day of hiking and enjoying the stunning landscapes of the Andes, we will arrive at Jampa (4,700 masl), where we will set up camp.
The highlight of this day is definitely the new ascent to the Jampa Pass (5,050 m.a.s.l). Along the way, we will pass by beautiful lakes on our hike to the community of Pacchanta (4,350 m.a.s.l), where we can visit some thermal baths and relax for a moment. We will enjoy a delicious typical lunch, board our transport, and return to Cusco.

This trekking has a medium-high level of difficulty, so it is important to be in good physical shape and have previous experience on long-duration hikes. Preliminary training, including hiking and resistance exercises, is recommended to meet the challenges of terrain and altitude.
While trekking, you can expect varied weather conditions, from mild and warm temperatures during the day to cold at night. It’s important to wear clothing appropriate for hot and cold weather, including layers that you can add or remove as needed. It is also recommended to bring a waterproof poncho in case of rain.
During the trek, you will have access to basic sanitary facilities in the camps and rest areas along the route. However, it is important to carry personal supplies, such as toilet paper and hand sanitizer, and be prepared to use simple facilities in natural settings.
High-quality camping equipment will be provided, including tents, sleeping pads, dining tent with table and chairs. However, it is important that travelers bring their own sleeping bag, preferably designed for cold temperatures, and other personal items such as a flashlight, camera, and toiletries.

In addition, strict safety protocols are followed, including constant supervision of participants, access to a first aid kit and an oxygen cylinder in case of emergency.
