The Apurímac Canyon, one of the deepest in South America, has the river called Apurímac “God Who Speaks”, the section where this canoeing activity is carried out is one of the most fascinating and exciting since it has level II rapids up to level V. There are even areas where there are level VI rapids, of course, according to regulations it is not possible to run them. Go for this extreme adventure and feel the adrenaline of this great trip. We will spend nights camping with bonfires on the banks of the river.
08:30 AM we will stop by your hotel to start this great adventure. We will begin our trip heading to the Huallpachaca bridge, located southeast of the city of Cusco approximately 4 hours away. We will arrive at the starting point by lunch time. After enjoying a delicious lunch, our guides will proceed to distribute all the safety equipment such as: Helmet, life jackets, paddles, jackets) then they will give us a brief safety talk on how to use the equipment and how to paddle while in the river. , as well as a water rescue demonstration. Next, we will proceed to paddle for approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes until we reach our camp located on the edge of the river.
After enjoying a comforting breakfast prepared by our guides, we will break up camp, pack up and continue with this magnificent adventure. This day will be full of adrenaline as we will run class III and class IV rapids. Keep in mind that in this section we will find class VI portages which we will stop and walk past. We will arrive at a point where we will enjoy our lunch and then continue sailing, arriving at our camp at approximately 5:00 pm. It is also located on the river bank. We will set up camp and after dinner we can have a bonfire and enjoy the sound of the river and the jokes of our guides.
One more day of adventure. After breakfast, we will pick up our camp and continue sailing for about 4 more hours. This day we will run class III, IV and V rapids. The final point of our route within the river is the Cunyac bridge, a place wherewe will use all our team, we will have lunch andwe will continue our return trip to the city of Cusco.
It is not necessary to have previous canoeing experience. Our professional guides will provide instructions and guidance prior to the activity to ensure safety and fun for all participants, both beginners and experienced.
The level of difficulty varies depending on the stretch of the river and weather conditions, but in general, the Apurímac River offers exciting intermediate level rapids suitable for beginners and adventurers alike.
Full safety equipment is provided, including helmets, life jackets and appropriate paddles. Our equipment is in compliance with safety standards and is regularly checked to ensure optimal operation.
Weather conditions may vary, but in general, expect warm, sunny weather during the day and cool nights. However, it is important to be prepared for possible rain, so it is recommended to wear waterproof clothing.
Accommodation is provided in basic camps or lodges along the Apurímac River. These accommodations are equipped with the essentials for a comfortable stay and offer an authentic nature experience.
