Puno, known as the Capital of Peruvian Folklore, is a city on the shores of the majestic Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world. Its cultural richness is reflected in its festivities, dances, and ancestral traditions.
In this impressive setting are the Floating Islands of the Uros, a set of artificial islands built with totora reeds, where its inhabitants preserve their way of life based on fishing, hunting, and crafts. Further out in the lake lies Taquile, an island of natural beauty and great cultural value. Its inhabitants, famous for their exquisite textiles declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, keep their customs alive and maintain a self-managed community with an authentic lifestyle.
We will begin our adventure by picking you up from your hotel at 06:30 a.m. to transfer to the Puno lake port. At 07:00 a.m., we will board a motorized boat bound for the Floating Islands of the Uros, an approximately 45-minute journey.
Upon arrival, we will be greeted by the inhabitants of the community, who wear their colorful traditional costumes and will show us their way of life on the lake. During the 40 to 50-minute visit, we will learn about the construction of the islands with totora reeds, fishing, hunting, and crafts, as well as the fascinating legends of Lake Titicaca. The people of Uros, besides these activities, also live from tourism and crafts.
Then, we will continue our journey towards the island of Taquile, arriving around 11:20 a.m. From the port, we will take a 30-minute walk to the main town, where we will enjoy an authentic experience with the locals, renowned for their fine textiles, declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.
After exploring its landscapes and archaeological sites, we will enjoy a traditional lunch based on fresh trout and vegetable soup. At 2:30 p.m., we will begin our return to Puno, arriving at the port at approximately 5:00 p.m. Finally, we will transfer you to your hotel, thus concluding a day full of culture, history, and unforgettable landscapes on Lake Titicaca.
