We will begin our hike, and we will join the entire team of professionals who will make our trip an unforgettable experience.
The Inca Trail begins by crossing the traditional bridge at Km 82 and continues along the left bank of the Urubamba River, which flows northeast of the Sacred Valley. After passing through some flat terraces, we will arrive at Miskay (2,800 m.a.s.l.), to then ascend and finally see the Inca City of Patallacta or Llactapata (2,750 m.a.s.l.). We will continue our walk along the valley created by the Kusichaca River, until we reach our first camp of Wayllabamba (3000 masl), where we will have a restorative dinner and spend the night.
During the route of the Inca Trail, we will be able to enjoy a splendid panorama of the Vilcanota river, the Urubamba mountain range with the top of La Verónica mountain (5750 m.s.n.m), covered with snow, and a great variety of flora and fauna along of the entire tour.
DAY 4: WAYLLABAMBA – WARMIWAÑUSCA – PACAYMAYU
On the second day we will resume our trek around 7:00 am, after having breakfast. This part of the route constitutes the hardest day of the Inca Trail, since the walk consists of a steep and narrow climb for about 9 kilometers. Along this ascent the landscape will change from sierra to puna, a dry and high area with scarce vegetation.
We will arrive at the first and highest pass of the mountain, the Abra de Warmihuañusca (dead woman’s pass, 4125 masl), where we will be able to observe domestic llamas and alpacas grazing on the ichu, one of the few plants that grows at that altitude. We will also cross through an area of the forest where various kinds of animals live, such as sparrows and the Andean bear (or spectacled bear). It is advisable to bring candies, chocolates and coca leaves to maintain a high level of sugar in the body and thus counteract altitude sickness. After having overcome the pass, we will descend towards the Pacaymayu valley (3600 m.a.s.l.), where we will camp after 7 hours of hiking.
DAY 5: PACAYMAYU – WIÑAYWAYNA
This is the longest but the most interesting and impressive day of our trek, since we will visit countless archaeological sites accompanied by our guide, who will explain the history of the places we visit.
From Pacaymayu we will go up to the second pass: the Abra de Runkurakay (3970 masl). We will visit the archaeological complex of the same name at 3800 meters above sea level, and we will find important vestiges of the Inca culture. After crossing the pass we will descend towards Yanacona (black lagoon) to finally arrive at Sayacmarca (3624 masl), where we will enjoy a 20-minute guided tour. Then we will go to “Chaquicocha”, where we will have lunch and then continue our walk in a geography that changes from dry and mountainous to the semitropical green of the jungle.
We will continue up an easy climb and pass through an Inca tunnel until we reach the pass or Abra de Phuyu Patamarca (3,580 m.a.s.l.), our third mountain pass. Phuyu Patamarca, which means “The Cloud over the City”, is one of the most complete and best preserved archaeological complexes and is located at the highest point of the mountain. Here we will witness a sophisticated complex made up of water sources with solid foundations and impressive views of the Urubamba River. We will continue descending towards Wiñayhuayna (2650 m.a.s.l.), which means “Forever Young”, for a guided visit to this spectacularly located archaeological complex. We will have dinner and spend the night in the camp.

In Wiñaywayna we will get up early, at approximately 4:00 a.m., to head towards the Puerta del Sol or “Inti Punku”. In this impressive place, we will delight ourselves with a panoramic view of Machu Picchu and we will observe the exit, after a walk on the flat stones that adorn the edge of the cliffs of the mountain. From “Inti Punku” we will walk for 40 minutes until we reach Machu Picchu, where we will enjoy a two-hour guided tour. Then we will have free time to walk around the citadel and marvel at the spectacular views of valleys and mountains. Likewise, we can visit the temple of the Moon and the fabulous Inca bridge.
