In the Inca folklore, condors are the messengers of the gods. On this full-day tour, we will have the privilege of watching this endangered species, which is regarded as the King of the Andes. Witnessing its flight is a riveting experience that will change the way you see and interact with nature. After all, it is not every day that we get to see the majestic condor in its natural habitat, soaring above the skies of the imposing Apurímac canyon, one of the deepest in the world.
Soaring Above The Clouds With The King Of The Andes
DAY 1: CANYON OF THE CONDOR
We will pick you up at the hotel at 08:00, from where we will travel to the Limatambo area. The road to Limatambo is in excellent conditions, and the trip will only take us around 2 hours. Along the way, we will do a guided visit of two very important archeological complexes KILARUMIYOC (Temple of the Moon and Fertility), and TARAWASI (Tambo Inca). We will resume our trip to the “Huayronca” bridge, from where we will ascend up a narrow road to the town of Chonta (3,400 meters above sea level). There will be some interesting stops along the way, where we will get to snap some pictures of the picturesque landscapes and the colossal Salkantay peak. We will have lunch in Chonta.
After a short break, we will hike for 1.5 hours until we reach the lookout at the Canyon of the Condor (3,350 meters above sea level). From this spot, we will witness the majestic flight of the King of the Andes in its natural habitat. We will have to wait until the condors are flying back to their nests, a spectacle during which we will be delighted with the flight of these beautiful birds, and we will get to see male and female condors, as well as their chicks.
