The Sacred Valley of the Incas is maybe one of the most impressive things you will see during your stay in the imperial city of Cusco. It is also known as the ‘Valley Vilcanota’. We will visit the traditional archaeological site of Pisaq and its typical market, the great fortress of Ollantaytambo, the crafts market and the ruins of Chinchero. You will be picked up at your hotel between 8.00am and 8.30am.
Located at the entrance of the Urubamba Valley, Pisac is a wonderful village where we can distinguish the ancient (archaeological site) of the modern quarters and exame the colonial charcteristics. The main attraction is the traditional market, where you can find a variety of typical ceramics and textiles of the region. Admire the costumes full of colours, worn by the local people, coming from different places. You will also recognize their ancestral customs of marketing. You can visit the old colonial church, where on Sundays the mass in celebrated in Quechua. “Los Varayocs” (local authorities of different cities) will allowed us to admire an interesting irrigation system of farm fields and a fabulous Inca Astronomical Observatory.
To reach the town of Urubamba, located in the heart of the Sacred Valley, we drive approximately for 45 minutes. During this ride we will observe the beautiful flora and fauna of the villages we pass, such as Coya, Lamay, Calca, Yucay and at least Urubamba. The area is very convenient and fertile and it was used as an important pre-Hispanic agricultural center. We will stay in this pleasant atmosphere for lunch, served in a cozy, typical restaurant.
In the afternoon we head towards the region of Ollantaytambo, also known as the “Valle del Tambo”, the only inhabited Inca city that streches along the river Vilcanota and reaches Machu Picchu. We will visit the famous fortress of Ollantaytambo, which is placed in the valley.
On our return way to Cusco, we stop in Chinchero and its small chapel. This place is also known for its Indian market, although this one here is smaller but very rich in traditions and regarding the textiles, it offers a bigger variety.
Return to Cusco.
For the night we will drop you off at your hotel in Cusco.
