Moray, at first glance seems to be a kind of amphitheater, conformed by several circular platforms but in reality is a center of agricultural experimentation of the Inca period. Next to Moray we have the impressive saline exploration complex. From Maras you can visit the salt mines along a horseshoe path where you find donkeys carrying salt bags. We will visit the following places:
Ruins of Moray.- Located at 3,450 m., Where we can locate testimonies of the pre-Hispanic settlements, such as the Inca remains, consisting of circular platforms that correspond to agricultural landfills with a complex irrigation system that reach the three sectors, which are discovered in 1930.
In the area of the hot one they denominate “muyus”, in the majority of the times, a depth of 150 meters, an average height of the platforms of 1.80 meters of each other. These correspond to the Inca period, and constituted a center of agricultural experimentation, in which several micro climates were obtained.
People of Maras.- So nice still preserves much of its colonial architectural beauty. Extraordinary portals with fine stone work are appreciated, as well as dintéis with sculptures in low relief.
Like Salineras.- It is a small spring of salt worked with very elementary means by a fraction of the population of “Maras” and of “Pichingoto”. These archaeological remains reveal that this resource was already known and used in pre – Hispanic times, and may have been one of the many sources of salt supply for the Inca population.
A technique for an extraction of the very similar to the measurement of a nine hundred years or more. During all these centuries this technology is conserved which consists of a true work of hydraulic engineering, but in miniature, since as water sources of relatively small dimensions, constructed like a way to use platforms of the ravine. Each water source has a channel and a source of water, in this way an evaporation and subsequent filling of the grain of salt that is sedimented in the floor is expected. The extraction is seasonal, only in dry weather of May in November or in September; A property of the water sources is mainly by inheritance.
